College Lifestyles Study
Young people with ADHD are at risk for alcohol and drug misuse, posing high direct and indirect costs to themselves and society. College students ADHD are especially vulnerable for the escalation of risky alcohol and drug use. Notwithstanding this vulnerability, key psychological, behavioral, and environmental factors that amplify risk during this period are largely unexamined.
With the support of the National Institutes of Health (National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse), we aim to understand predictors of alcohol and drug misuse in college students with and without ADHD. Using novel daily survey methodology, this research study represents a critical first-step in understanding what makes some students particularly vulnerable to impairing alcohol and drug use. Through this study, we will identify “real world” behavioral and environmental targets that should be addressed in prevention and intervention.
If you’re a college student at UMD, with OR without ADHD, who drinks alcohol and you’re interested in participating, please take this preliminary survey: CLS Screener.
Eligible students will complete a single in-person study visit at the Maryland ADHD Lab. Participants will next fill out once daily mobile surveys (3-5 minutes each) for two weeks. Participants will receive up to $115 for their time and effort.
